Ken, to answer your question quite simply is that people will pay the price. Before
"The River Runs Through It" things were quite affordable, but since then everyone
wants to be a flyfisher and the shops and manufacturers have taken advantage of the
Yuppies who have no experience but lots of money, and so now the rest of us are fish
with practical reels like the Argus and Okumas that work quite well. But if you want
to sip single malt and smoke a cigar you too can own the finest Able and tell your
friends about the one that got away (from your guide) :)
