Title: Re: where have all the reports gone?
Observations on list postings/my two cents:

I only joined the list a few months ago so I can comment only on what I've seen in that brief tenure.  I've been fly fishing regularly since 1978, so I wouldn't put my interests in the beginner's category (although there are plenty of days where I spend an inordinate amount of time tangling and untangling lines, knots, hooks, and flies, slipping on rocks, losing and breaking stuff, losing fish, missing fish, and generally being humbled). The point is I've found many of the postings to be quite informative and interesting and plenty technical for those who appreciate the technical side of fly fishing. I particularly recall a recent comprehensive and articulate posting about a list member's experiences in New Zealand and the things he learned (and passed on to the group) regarding playing large fish on light tippet. It was good stuff!

PS. I always subtract 4 inches from fish sizes in reports. :-)

Funny...
I actually use the reports as places to avoid... as in the Yak Canyon.
When the weather is great, and the steelhead are moving in, and on monday I DONT hear about the Sky... Guess where Im heading next weekend...

Sometimes no report is the best indicator.  Sometimes bad reports are also good indicators:

Heres how I generally interpret reports:

"Caught a few" - Got skunked
"Did Great!" - Caught a few
"Most on Dries" - One on dry
"Was in the upper <insert river name here>" - Stay outta my spot in the lower <Insert river name here>
"Saw the <insert river name here> on the way to work and it looked blown." - Im fishing the <insert river name here> after work.

Size chart:
"6-8"  -  Dinks
"10-12" - 6-8
"13-14" - strong 10"
"15-17" - 13-14
"20+" - Biggest fish of the day, can range from 10" - 14"
