| To follow up on your Chico report, I will fill you in on today. We were there this morning and had excellent fishing. Caught numerous fish. I didn't count how many, but easily over 10 and caught just 2 foul hooked. The fish seemed to have a bite earlier, then went into their close-mouthed mode for 2-3 hours.
At one point I was interrupted from my concentration on the fly by a raucous sound of splashing water, upstream from me. As I looked over I saw hundreds of salmon racing downstream, thrashing the water in all directions. After they reached the salt water beach they spread out, but were not interested in biting the fly at all. We broke for lunch. I have not seen a large group of fish charging down the stream like that before. They acted like some fish do in trying to go upstream. After a break for food, the fish were again in the biting mood. We caught numerous fish again. By afternoon, however, the number of fishers was increasing and so we left. Interesting that a good portion, in fact probably a majority, were flyfishing. Man were there ever a lot of fish in that stream. And a lot of carcasses. Paul |
