I am mystified as to the correlation, or lack thereof, of the correlation between the grains of a sinking line and the sink type that is commonly listed.
For example, my heavy rod is a #7 with which I commonly fish a type 4 sinking tip line. I have seen some lines on sale at Orvis which are 300 grain sinking lines. I am wanting to buy some shooting heads for both salmon and steelhead fishing, and I am considering buying a teeny type 7 line for deep water fishing. How do these 300, 350 and so on lines compare to these lines? And I am concerned that a 300 grain line will overload my #7 rod severely. -- Rob Blomquist Kirkland, WA
