Speaking of swiss straw... why don't pens adhere?

I recently tied a crayfish, the back of which is brown swiss straw. I then
took my black pen that I bought at Kaufman's (don't recall brand - the only
ones they have) and mottled the brown back on it with a bunch of black
spots. Looked great! Fished it one time and all the black washed right
off... looked lame.

These pens are waterproof, right? Is it a problem with the surface I marked
on, the swiss straw? or, do these pens just suck???

thx in advance
Jim

Heck, the wee package of raffia that I buy at the fly shop is just about a
lifetime supply! I don't EVEN know what I'd do with 100 yards; gives raffia
gift stocking stuffers at Christmas, I guess, or will it to my nieces and
nephews when I die. From a pure accounting perspective, on a per yard basis
it makes sense to buy that big quantity, but I don't know that it does make
sense to spend $5 for 98 additional yards of raffia that I won't use for 50
years.

Just funnin' with you, Ross.

Richard

> Post script to the bead discussion......I was at a packaging specialties
store the other day on a work related mission and found in their ribbon
section a wall full of different types/colors/materials of raffia (swiss
straw). $6.95 for a lifetime supply (100 yards).
