Sharpies were used on my first attempt, before moving to the more expensive pens. They also washed off from swiss straw. Think I'll figure out a better material for backs and tails on crayfish... aw hell, never caught a fish on a crawdad yet anyway, maybe I'll just quit tying crawdads and be done with it!! hehe

You might try using a Sanford Sharpie permanent marker instead. The twin tip version has both fine and ultra-fine tips. You can fine 'em at office supply stores like Office Depot or Staples but they only come in black and a couple other primary colors.
