I'm sure Leland will get around to answering this but the looped connection
is the latest configuration.  The looped 30-lb. mono makes for a stiffer
connection reducing the likelihood of the hook swinging around and hooking
itself over the popper or its own trailer.  The loop also makes it possible
to replace the hook if it should be broken on a dropped back cast.
