What time of year?

In Montrose you can plan on just exploring the Gunnison in and around the Black Canyon Monument. There is enough water there to keep you busy for a week, especially with hiking in and out. I've only been there a couple times but I consider it a fishing Cathedral; you have never seen anything like the Black Canyon and to be able to fish in it is an experience any fly fisher dreams of. You can drive down to the East Portal in the monument and fish some water there and you can hike in a few places just below the monument. I have not had time to do the hikes but they are said to be both VERY grueling and VERY worth the effort.

I've also fished a little further up the river at Altmont at the Gunni below the Taylor...very fun and accessible water. Lots of good fishing above Blue mesa on the forks of the gunnison and the town of Gunnison is also a nice spot.

So although my experience in that area is limited, it is limited to some of the best fishing I've found in CO. (or many other places as well)

Have fun
Paul
