I'll second the tip to go to Rocky Mountain National Park. I went there toward the end of the fishing season last year, caught a dozen greenback trout, watched people chase elk with cameras and had a grand time. I went there at the tail end of a business trip for the sole purpose of catching a greenback.

I went in the fall, and there were also salmon in the river, Kokanee that had been planted in the big reservoir downstream of Gunnison. >From Loveland, if you drive south and West, you'll find the town of Lyons. The St. Vrain runs through there, it's John Gierach's home water, if I'm not mistaken. I love the St. Vrain, and although it's not known for big fish, the fishing is steady and reliable. It was all about hoppers when I was there. There's a city park in Lyons that offers easy access to willing trout, but driving upstream toward Estes, you find other accesses to the river with different surprises. Lots of streams there, if you drive up into Rocky Mt National Park from Loveland, there are so many options, some hike-ins where you can try for reintroduced native greenback cutthroat, if you're in to finding different species - they're not big, but they're pretty.
