Another fishery you may want to look at is the Animas River from Hermosa
down past Durango.  It's about a two hour drive from Montrose but the river
and it's tribs are well populated with rainbows and browns.  I haven't
fished it in almost 20 years so am certain there have been changes but when
I was there, trout at 16 inches were the norm.  Have fun!
