I own a Cimarron C-4 and have a friend that has two. He lives in Florida and uses them exclusively in that nasty salt lagoon environment for years and has landed any number of SW fish, some large. They have performed great for him. Mine has been used in a bit less harsh environment but has never let me down. I'd describe it as a real workhorse. However, if you can find a Cimarron (new) for $70 jump on it, because they retail for about twice that.
Ross does now have a new cast aluminum (Flywater) for $110 for 05. I suppose it's meant to compete with the Battenkill.
Speaking of which, if you want to stay close to the $100 mark you cannot miss with the Battenkill. Orvis has sold a ton of them for a reason. I've used the 7/8 as a SW cutthroat/coho reel for about ten years now. Just recently decided I should give it a good rinse and put some silicone in the works! Good finish, good drag, lightweight (SW resistent) and Orvis support. Spare spools are fair priced and there are so many out there you may be able to find one used for sale. I've picked up two spare spools that way.

Well I own two Okuma sierra 7/8 reels which I use on our five weights. Most
of the time they work just wonderuflly with no complaints. The steelhead I
caught on the Snoq, and the last fishing trip really pushed them beyond
their limits. Several times on my last trip the clicker stopped working,
seemed like the drag was still working, and I had to open them up and poke
my finger around in there. Now when I strip out line it sounds weird. So ...
I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations on new reels under 100
bucks that might last a bit longer and handle a bit better than my Okuma
Sierra's?
On another forum I read that the Ross Cimmaron is a good reel? Looked to be
about 70 bucks.
