Me too!!
I've got a DV iMac which always does this. It's in an Airport
network. I've trashed Recent Items, recent servers, appleshare,
appletalk and networking preferences and counselled it in many forms,
but "NO, I'm always going to hang at startup" it says.
Did you try deleting "AppleShare Prep" from the preferences folder?
Do you have any aliases to big folders (or the entire hard drive) in
your Apple menu?
