For WASP I have been using 203.190.192.7 and 203.190.192.8. For iiNet I
have been using 203.0.178.191 for both primary and secondary.

No, the code used to implement the TCP/IP stack in OS X is not the same as that used in OS 9 (thanks to Apple's infinite wisdom :). It may be that some problem with the DNS servers is tickling an OS 9 bug but works with OS X. Or it may be that some bug in the DNS servers is tickled by OS 9 but not OS X.
