Oh what great excitement ....... 8000k Adsl ....?? that's 8MB just about enough
to run Video ..... so they say ?

I would suggest there are a lot of issues to be resolved before this performs
like we would like it to .
The chances of getting a copper circuit that would handle that speed
are small if they exist at all .

If it's to work a whole new approach will need to be taken ... Optic fibre perhaps ..... but why should Telstra or anybody else rush out and instal this while the ACCC are
price fixing the returns .

Already we see that private enterprise does not want to expend much on any Dslams
at exchanges .....
it's much less risky to just let Telstra be the bunny and then complain like mad
as though they are charging too much.

So by the time this gets OFF THE GROUND a whole new lot of Modems
and connect boxes are likely to be on the market with a lot of new technolgy .

Unless you have to change , or have money burning a hole in your pocket
I suggest you wait for at least 12 months ....
and 2 years would be an even better time line.

My 2 c

Bob

Personally I wouldn't worry about ADSL2+ compatibility.
You have to remember that these speeds are limited by the ability of your phone line. The ISP can offer the speeds but your phone line may not be able to support speeds that high. I know I'm very close to the exchange in my area so my speeds should be relatively high. I'm getting 2000k on iinet's 8000k plan so there is no way ADSL2+ is going to have any benefit to me.

I'd hate to imagine what I'd get up here in Mt Tarcoola. At one stage I could only get 32k on a 56k connection with a v90 modem. Seems ants are rife here and had eaten through the lines. adsl2 ants maybe would be tougher? I guess by the time adsl2+ is available the modem will be obsolete but as this is the first time on broadband, and with adsl2 imminent in my understanding, I'd rather get the latest equipment and know it wasn't the weakest link.

Reg
