I've put the laptop right next to the airport and it still doesn't
work at the time when it seems to be some kind of interference.
Well, it could be the airport card in the laptop... Anecdotal
evidence seems to indicate that sometimes the antenna connections
come loose.
Also, try turning on 'interference robustness', but if it's not
working a metre away then I'd guess something is broken.
