I wonder which version of Appleworks you are using, I have
Appleworks6 on an intel Mac with OSX 4.9,
All I do is put the database (you are using this rather than the
spreadsheet mode?) into list format, select the column required (e.g.
surname) by clicking on the heading, The whole column is then
highlighted and the font or size can be selected rom the format. It's
very easy so I can't understand the problem, As far as I remember
this worked on all my earlier versions of Appleworks,

It's not the complete answer - when I selected the whole of a row
at the head and tried to do the same, Appleworks just stopped (no
rotating circle). But the principle has been proved, I can work on
from there.

You say : One particular Text field .... over the whole
database ! ?
The interpretation I give to this is that there are numerous
fields ...
and a number of fields in that group in which you wish to change the
Font !
If the interpretation is correct ...
are you able to sort the fields so that those needing to be changed
will appear in a row or a column ???
In which case you could highlight that row/column and format only the
cells it contains.
Reverse the sort to reinstate your presentation .
But perhaps I misinterpret what you are telling us .
