-- Why it doesn't work at times is probably a combination of the older operating system version and the nature of the particular database, which has many chinese characters (which will necessarily often be in a different font to the english characters). I hope to trade up to a new computer and operating system later this year, and anticipate this will ease problems of the sort I sometimes have.

I wonder which version of Appleworks you are using, I have
Appleworks6 on an intel Mac with OSX 4.9,
All I do is put the database (you are using this rather than the
spreadsheet mode?) into list format, select the column required (e.g.
surname) by clicking on the heading, The whole column is then
highlighted and the font or size can be selected rom the format. It's
very easy so I can't understand the problem, As far as I remember
this worked on all my earlier versions of Appleworks,
