Hello People,

I asked Allen to send me an image as an attachment using his "Mail Attachments Iconizer". I sent him an image as an attachment using the method I originally posted to WAMUG in response to Stephen Chape's question.

Thanks Allen for your input. The result is the plugin "Mail Attachments Iconizer" does not change the way the recipient sees the image, only the way the sender sees it. The recipient still sees the image inline (in the body of the message) & also as an attachment.

"So To be certain that a graphic does not appear inline, you must compress the file before attaching it. Under Tiger, the easiest way to compress a file (in Windows-friendly Zip format) is to select the file in the Finder and choose File > Create Archive of filename.
Under Leopard, in Finder choose File > Compress.

Attach a file using the Attach button on the toolbar or by choosing File > Attach File (Command-Shift-A), and selecting the 'Send Windows Friendly Attachments' Mail offers no convenient way to toggle Windows friendliness for attachments added by drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste.

Always have the correct file extension e.g.. .pdf & .jpg.

Also add your attachments at the 'end' of your email, even after a signature if you use one."

I sent my image to Allen using the above method, the image showed as an icon at the bottom of my email & as an attachment icon in the header (under the paperclip). When Allen received it, it showed as an icon at the bottom of the email & as an attachment icon in the header (exactly as I sent it in Mail).

Cheers,
Ronni
PS. Hey Allen, you have a beautiful little Granddaughter, she is a sweetie ;-)

Don't know Ronni. I just see it from my side where all attachments on incoming and outgoing emails now sit as icons neatly at the bottom of the msg. I got fed up with them opening up all the time even when I didn't want to see them.

I assumed recipients were getting the same as I am seeing, but I'm not sure, as they all have different programmes

Hi Allen,

In Mail Application when composing a message, if you do not wish to see the full graphic, you can Control-click (or right-click) it and choose 'Show as Icon' from the contextual menu. But this affects only your view, not the way it appears to the recipient. To be certain that a graphic does not appear inline, you must compress the file before attaching it.

How does the mail plugin 'Mail Attachments Iconizer' control how the Recipient's email application is setup to view the attachment?

Cheers,
Ronni

I use a mail plug in called Mail Attachments Iconizer from http://lokiware.info/ for this problem.
Costs about A$8 and works well for me.

Hello fellow WAMUGGERS,

How the heck do you stop Image and PDF attachments embedding in the email itself ?
It does not seem to happen with Excel files.
I have gone through Mail Preferences several times but cannot find any way of switching this off. I have friends who are not happy about receiving attachments that are not attached.

Any suggestions (other than using another application)?

Regards,
Stephen Chape
