Hi Peter,
Strong rumors are about that the iPhone will be released in Australia
on the 20th February - that’s in a few short weeks.
I would wait rather than try to hack the iPhone.
There are lots of instructions out there, but ... if you make a
mistake when hacking your iPhone, you can ‘brick’ it - ie turn your
iPhone into an expensive $900 paper weight ... a mere house brick.
If you do this, you can expect no mercy from Apple to fix it as your
warranty will be void.
"On the other hand, you do stand to own a working iPhone if you the
follow the jail-breaking and unlocking instructions religiously."
Cheers,
Ronni

Hi Peter
I suggest you have a look on MacTalk Forums <www.mactalk.com.au>
I suggest you should start with this Topic: How to procure an iPhone
in Australia?
http://forums.mactalk.com.au/showthread.php?t=36565
Then I would move on to unlocking. There is quite a few different
topics on the forums With the various ways you can unlock a iPhone

I saw a real live iPhone at Harvey Normans last week. The sales rep
(a
Mac addict) had one. Now I have an extreme case of lust - when will
they be on sale in Australia? how can I get one now? how
much do they cost? He said something about hacking the SIM card -
what
does that involve?
