Hi Rob Yep, both my current 17" MBP and previous 17" Powerbook (I think that's what it was called?) suffered from similar wake issues. I've never (or rarely) needed to power down to bring the screen back to life, but I have needed to hit keys more than once, or close and re-open the lid. I've tended to just live with the waking issues, though if I had to power down each time I think that'd inspire me to action.
Things seem okay these days, albeit my MBP is currently in for hard disk replacement following failure of a replacement about after only 2 months, this on the back of two logic board replacements since purchase, as well as a battery exchange due to faulty swelling battery. Fortunately all this still within the extended warranty period. During its warranty covered 3-year life, my previous Powerbook went through an entire screen replacement, hard disk replacement, speaker replacement, and aircard replacement. I'm probably someone who'd be categorised as a heavy user, in terms of time the machine is in use, but I'd be significantly poorer if I hadn't taken out an extra couple of years warranty in each case.
