Bingo!

Hi Ronni
Yes the serial number is blank.
This is an older 17" MacBookPro and has had various upgrades and repairs over
the last 6 years. Perhaps this is why the serial could be missing.

Like Rob, I am waiting for the new Broadwell processors for the 15".

Hi Brian,

Just two things to check before calling in your friendly Mac Consultant to
check your Mac or take it to MacWorx.

1. Check that your Mac Serial number is showing under Apple symbol > 'About
This Mac'.
Then you could follow these instructions provided by Linc Davis.
<https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7259079>

Basically you run a Systems Query Log while you are trying to log-in to the App
Store, and the log will show you what the issue is.
It could be a Hardware Serial Number Error.

If it is you'll need to take it to an Apple Store to get them to register the
serial number on the computer.

2. Are you running any Anti-Virus software or Little Snitch? If so disable them
and try to Sign In.

Cheers,
Ronni
