I might have missed some of this, as didn’t read all the thread fully.

But on the iPhone under iCloud. Which address is it set up with there?
If Find my iPhone is on and using that address, then it’s hard to restore the
iPhone if it’s got the old address.

If however it’s the “current” email address then you’ll be able to turn off
Find my iPhone to do a restore.
If however it’s been set up at the “first level” then sometimes even after
restoring it, it will still have a “lock” to that old address. (and it gets
very messy).

If however, the Settings - iCloud is using the old no longer used address, the
only way you will solve this is a call to Apple.
You’ll need to advise them it’s no longer used email and you need a password
reset please.

With Find my iPhone if used to wrong old email address, it will pretty much
make the iPhone not that useful (“brick”), due to the level of security that
underlies with it,….

So that would be one of the places I’d be checking on the iPhone.
Settings - iCloud. Which email address is there?

Also check the following - (Which email address is used??)
Settings - iTunes & App Stores
Settings - Messages - (is iMessage on?) - Scroll down to Send & Receive - tap
on it. What addresses/Apple ID are used there?
Settings - FaceTime - what AppleID there?

They’re the main ones that uses AppleID’s and iCloud etc.

Kind regards
Daniel
