Hi, I have an iMac 27 inch Late 2009, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, running OSX 10.10.5, with one Firewire 800 port which does not work.
I have two external HD’s, neither show on the desktop nor light up to indicate that they are operational when I connect them to the iMac. I also have an iMac 20 inch 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OS X 10.9.5. If I connect either of the two above external HD’s to it they both show up straight away and I can see all the files on them. One of the external HD’s in my backup for the 27 inch iMac, the other contains large movie files so I really need the FW800 port to operate. By using external HD’s on the 20” I believe I have ruled out the cables as causing the problem as they both work. I have disconnected everything from the 27” and reset the SMC, still it does not show. I have connected the external HD to the 20” and made it active and then tried to piggy back it, using its other FW800 port, and one of the tested cables, to the 27”, it still did not show up. I did the exact same as above and put an SMC reboot in the middle. Anyone have any ideas on a possible remedy?
