Hi Ronni, The external HD began to stop working about 12 to 14 months or so ago. It would be intermittent at first, sometimes it would not connect and other times it would, As I was generally using the monthly back up it was not big deal. More recently I had to use the SMC reset to get it to work. Then about 4-5 months ago I bought a USB hard drive for the back ups, as it didn’t seem to connect at all and put it out of my mind.
Neither of them show in Disk Utility. System Profiler under Hardware says - FireWire Bus: Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec Neither shows in System Profiler when connected to the FW800 port I connected them to the 20” iMac and in the System Profiler they showed up - FireWire>FireWire Device Tree>FireWire Bus>My Book The same with Disk Utility, they showed up as a disk on the LHS. Take care. Matt. Hi Matt, When did these external HD stop showing on the Desktop? Do either of these external HD show in Disk Utility on the 27 inch iMac? Have you checked the FW800 port in System Profiler? When connected to the FW800 port do they show in System Profiler: under Hardware - FW800 - status: ?
