Hi Graeme, What NBN Plan are you on? Are you FTTP or FTTN. You must be on a fairly low NBN Plan to be receiving the download & Upload speeds you mentioned below.
With NBN Download Speeds & Upload Speeds depend on what NBN Broadband Plan you are paying for. I’ve been on NBN FTTP since May 2014 with iiNet/Westnet on a $94.90 per month plan My Plan is 100GB + 100GB (Peak + OffPeak) + 50Mbps Download / 20Mbps Upload + Fibre Phone (my own phone). I rarely reach the 50/20 Mbps speeds of my Plan. My SpeedTest results taken today: 1. Turn Off WI-FI - Connected via Ethernet CAT6 cable directly into the NBN Termination Box UNI-D 1 Port Ping Download Upload 4.8ms - 47.6Mbps 18.9Mbps 2. Connected via WI-FI 5GHz Network (3TB Time Capsule) Ping Download Upload 4.9ms 47.7Mbps 18.9Mbps 3. Turn Off WI-Fi - Connected via Ethernet port on TC Ping Download Upload 4ms 47.6Mbps 19Mbps Note: I use and recommend CAT6 Ethernet cables, CAT5e can be used by CAT6 are faster for Broadband Also what Neil mentioned and I Quote from Neil’s reply: /Begin Quote Your results sort of confirm what worries me about the NBN – the network/technology gives better speeds but, because of the high wholesale costs, the service providers don’t buy enough bandwidth to give good user speeds when congested. /End Quote Yes Neil, the smaller ISPs don’t have enough ‘Backhaul’ to handle congestion times - a lack of virtual capacity on the network that slows some connections to a crawl.
