Hi Phillippe Snap! It was a nearby lightning strike that took out my iMac ethernet port and destroyed the netgear modem router in December 2012. I have underground power. TV and Mac were the only casualties, both with minor injuries. The TV aerial was the probable local focus as I had an EyeTV USB device connected to the iMac.
