Well, those are some good thoughts too, but I don't think that Mr Schwamp was
had anything to do with the funeral home though. If you recall, we learned when
"Jim Lindsay" was trying to get his start that Orville Monroe operated the
funeral home at that time. He was pretty upset about the crowd gathering out
front while Jim was playing. Remember, his business demands DIGNITY!!!
Then later when Gomer joins the Marines we learned that the reason he
(Gomer)learned all the words to the Marine Hymm was because Nelson's Funeral
Parlor put out a calender with all the words to the song on it. Unless Mr/
Schwamp owned the funeral home in between times. Surely there wasn't enough
business for two funeral homes. Off hand I can only remember two deaths being
discussed. One was Aunt Bee's friend Gussie. The other was Mr. Silbey, and we
found out that was really a death. Just some out of control pride.
Besides, Mr. Schwamp smiled too much for an undertaker. I really feel like he
was just a typical "Mayberrian". You know, quiet, brave, modest....
