They never called the "Courthouse" the Town Hall that I can recall. The courthouse is usually in the County seat. Also, it is specifically mentioned that Andy and Barney work for the county. In the episode where they were trying to evict Mr. Frisbee, Barney says "If you ask me they ought to fire the whole lot of them...Bunch of goldbrickers...etc..." Andy replies, "Barn, did it ever occur to you that we're on the payroll. We work for the County...." Could it be that the Town was so small the police jurisdiction for the Town was given to the County? To my knowledge, this can be done. At least, in SC I know of one place where it was done.... Or, could it be that this is Mayberry we're talking about and it doesn't matter? I doubt the writers thought we would be picking it apart almost 50 years later!!! Gotta love this bulletin board!!!
