Thanks for the apologies, but they really weren't necessary as you aren't the one upsetting me. Sorry if I gave you that impression. I'm just flat out totally and absolutely frustrated w/the whole mess that I've been trying to get fixed for a week and a half now. The annoyance comes in when everything was working beautifully until recently, I had no servers that did this. Suddenly there's a repeat performance on this newer server that I've come across twice in the past on two other servers and have been able to get fixed, although you all are telling me it's not broke <g>. I try the two different fixes that *worked* on the other two servers and they don't work on this one, plus I try several different fixes and they don't work either. I'm normally a common sense person and to me 5 minutes of available work time w/o being cut off does not make common sense. Not on any server, especially when this wasn't occurring before. It also makes no sense that one of the reasons this is being done is that the server people feel that a longer time puts to much stress on their systems and that it's a cure for people forgetting to log off and go to lunch from leaving things open. To me, it's just a ridiculously low number. I can understand the theory behind it, but the server fix of 5 minutes is totally out of line in my opinion. As for pinging the ftp .. since I don't understand all this ftp/pinging/tracerts stuff very well, I could be expressing this wrong. However, what I do that I call 'pinging the ftp session' is to use one of the pinging programs and have my ftp session open and do the ping while ws_ftp is open to that server. I select the 'ftp' option if there is one in the program or I type in the IP or the www addy and do the ping then. I also mean that I have used about a half dozen different ping programs, they sit in the tray and ping at a set time, in this case every 3 or 4 minutes. These programs are designed to work like the keep-alive option in ws_ftp is my understanding and since the keep alive is not working, I tried these. I used to have one of these programs many years ago and it worked GREAT! They send packets to the server automatically at intervals and that keeps the connection alive. But, none of these I've tried in the past few days work at all. Does that explain it better? Sorry if I'm doing a lousy job here, like I said I'm pretty much an ftp dummy. Thanks for trying to help.
