It's fun reading what everyone does, so here goes... I got my first computer in '85 -- an Atari 520 ST. That was about the funnest computer I ever had. Later, I helped start an import/export business with some college friends, and then opened a computer store -- that was a lot of fun but not much income.
Went to work for a "gaming" company and supported their Paradox-based applications for quite a while (7 years). Wrote a lot of utilities for various customers in both Paradox and C, and still get called periodically to help fix things. Now I work for the State and help support IBM's UNIX for a large project. I got tired of trying to remember everything and started making some internal web pages -- which turned out to be quite a hit with my boss and some others. This was inspired by my learning HTML at the start of 2002, then slogging along with CSS (which is incredibly useful and not at all a waste of time like a friend had counseled). Also started learning PHP and Javascript recently, but have a long way to go with both. Currently, I just hand-code everything using TextPad and VI (except for large tables, which usually generate with Awk or csh), but will eventually try other methods that people have mentioned on this group. My wife and I have been married almost 4 years, and we're expecting our first baby in June (Lord willing everything will go well). My workmate says he's gonna call me Father Abraham since I'll be 44 when the baby is born :^/ We're very excited! There sure are a lot of innovative and learned people here! It's been a pleasure reading the posts when I can...
