Epson Perfection 1640SU scanner with auto document feeder

The scanner is very good and very fast, even on USB-1 connection (it has
SCSI as well) and the sheet feeder actually works really well - if you want
you can dump a small stack of originals in (up to 30 sheets) and scan the
lot automatically. That works for scanning images into a multi page pdf or
fax for instance, or OCR text into a Word doc, not sure if you can use it
e.g. to scan a bunch of images into Photoshop

Whole thing is not a cheap buy - yes you can get a fairly good scanner for
£80 or less but how fast/good/reliable is it? Scanner about £180, sheet
feeder £140. What you'll find is a lot of the cheap scanners make the PC do
all the image processing which is why they are really slow to scan where the
1640 does it all much quicker and can scan at 1600x3200 dpi and 42-bit
colour
