anyone else got a suggestion?
Try asking a few people who are responsible for looking after scanners what the scanner is and where they got it.
If they can instantly tell you that it's a Brand X and that they got it from Dealer Y, that probably means that they are continually calling Dealer Y to get it fixed. I do this regularly with clients, prospects and just about any business I happen to wander into.
For scanners, many people who have Canon cannot remember what they've got or where they got it, which is always a sign that it's working well and that they can happily forget about it. Some of them lean over to it and say "Oh, it's a Canon," which is very encouraging.
Dreadful when you ask someone about printers and they say something like "That big colour one and the little laser here are from Dealer Y." I expect that they can tell me Dealer Y's help desk number off the top of their heads, too.
Regards, David
