Try buying a subscription for delivery via download then finding out it
won't install on a brand new computer with a freshly formatted clean install
of XP Pro. Nothing installed, not even Office. I even tried on a fresh
install before applying a single patch or update. Support was limited to
posting on their BB or paying $$. Their online support kept insisting that
the problem had to be some Symantec program that had incompletely installed
and that I needed to edit the registry to get it to install.

No Symantec, Norton or any other entry remotely related to them in the
registry. The hard drive had not only been freshly formatted but all
partitions had been deleted and the drive repartitioned before the OS was
installed. So there wasn't even a boot sector that could have held some
mythical prior Symantec install. I say mythical because even when delivered
from the factory there had been no Symantec product, even a 30 AV installed.

The steps I needed to go through to get a refund would have taken even more
of my time with a promise that if I properly completed all paperwork and
mailed it to them I'd receive a refund within 90 days I didn't waste any
more time with them. I will not purchase another Symantec Anti-virus. We now
use Trend Micro, never had a problem with them.

Thanks for that KaoFar; that confirms that I shall turn to AVG. I too
had a paid Norton a while back, but after a re-install I couldn't revive the
subscription that was only about two-thirds used. Vowed I'd never pay
Norton again.
