Since IE 4 has been nothing but problems for me, and that three also
appears to be others out there experiencing problems. I thought we
could do an informal survey regarding it.
And before someone does this, yes...I have attempted the "fix"
suggested by Microsoft in their Knowledge Base, I've removed and
reloaded the browser more than 6 times, and yes I've been "visited"
with all the other solutions presented (except the one involving the
sacrifice of the chicken, and spreading its blood over my computer).
Here is a list that I've compiled of the problems experienced:
1. Once the browser is installed, the javascript funtions
window.open and window.close no longer work, and in fact produce
javascript errors in IE.
2. With Active Desktop installed, Windows 95 does not properly save
the desktop configuration. (I have all my programs in folders on the
right side of the screen, and the task bar is with autohide, and on
the left side of the screen...normally). I no longer have Active
Desktop installed to say the least.
3. My installation of Lotus Organizer, and Fedex's shipping software
no longer works.
My contention is that all the solutions require some level of
understanding the comptuer system and software. And I don't feel
that the majority of the owners out there can even know where to
begin to find solutions. Also, will it may mean money to go around
looking at IE installations gone wrong, to me it would be unethical.
