George,
I beg to differ only because most believe that the home page is the only
page that can be or should be listed with a search engine. Before the
plethora of Meta tags, Web developers created customized pages for search
engines. Yahoo may have received Index_yahoo.html, InfoSeek received the
URL index_Info.html, etc. all of which forwarded, (via a click or a delayed
refresh) to the meat of the site. /REAL/ URL's, which were short and sweet,
were used on letterhead, business cards, and the like.
My advice to JP if you use a splash page:
1. use the meta tags (description and keywords in particular) on your
splash page (good)
2. select key pages, perhaps the page following the splash page, and
submit them to the search engines. (better)
BTW, the code is:
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="10; URL=http://yoursite.com/page_2.html">
CONTENT="10;... the number of seconds to wait before loading....
URL=http://yoursite.com/[email protected]">
