I'm back again...
Even I don't post very frequently I hope you noticed my absence :-)
No, no I wasn't on holiday. I've burned 1 motherboard and 3 video
card. I was running back and forward from my usual source of HW
changing my pieces.
When evrything was right (now I've got a 17" monitor, eheheh) I
checked my email.... there were more then 2000 messages.
It seems that nobody there is taking a break!!!!
I've heard some list member are getting older. Happy birthday!
I was very pleased to read Al email again. What is happening to
him is the sort of thing that make people crazy. He honored us to
share his pain with him.
I've followed the newbie/netiquette thread (well I've burned half the
emails without reading them, I really dont know how Rainmaker
can handle 130 lists).
Mumble Does anybody remember if I've been a good newbie?
Actually I never left the newbies group :-)
Sometimes I feel guilty, I'm not a very active list member. I answer
1 question and I ask 100!!!
Brent, I think that it's a good thing to try to figure out how things
work by yourself but I think society is a great thing :-). The time
you spend to resolve one problem that could be easily resolved by
another list member could be used to answer to 100 "easy for you"
questions to other list members. One thing is to exercise your
brain, another is wasting other people time (if the time you spend
to write an email + the time somebody spend to answer you is
longer than pi/12 of the time you could use to resolve your problem
by your own, you're waisting time - Lazynowsky inequality), and
another thing is understanding the value of a community.
AMEN (You know I'm only 26, full of hormones, I feel clever)
CAPS
For those who ate CAPITALIZATION... think of all those poor
boys/girls who have 14" monitor :-)
Anyway trying to be just a little bit more serious...
Capitalization has its use, expecially in plain text emails where you
can't use bold, italics etc...
But when I see an email subject capitalized in a mailing list the
first thing I think is "poor guy he/she really need help!!!" or
"Tremendous disaster announced read carefully and quickly"
tHaT'S WHy EvRYBodY sHoULd use CApITalIzaTioN WiTH cArE!!!
ooops! Previous line should suggest another good reason to use
capitalization with care.
Since I'm a bad time organizer I don't care if other waste my time I
waste 97% of my time by my own!!!
So the thing that upset me in Typsy email was one of his/her
answer (really sorry, it's not a good thing to say good and do evil, I
can't remember your name, I've finished now to "read" more than
2000 emails)
He/She write He/She does't care of other people description so
why she/he should write her/his own to introduce him/her to the
list?
What I do usually is:
lurking
introducing myself IF REQUIRED (One of my best quality is to be
modest :-)))
asking/answering
But I really care to list members who will use their time to answer
me for two reason
1) they are helping me.
2) I need to evaluate the quality of their answer.
You'll be grateful to evrybody but you have to solve a problem.
If I answer a question to someone I use to read also what other
people will answer maybe I can improve my knowledge in that field.
For me It'll be much more interesting than reading emails on
Photoshop tricks since I'm completelyt unable to draw.
Anything else???
Do you really pretend I remember the contents of all those
emails???
UH yess, Kathy Don't drive to fast we love you!
And finnally... I'm going to spend 10 days in Hungary (8/18/98 to
8/28/98).
I've visited East Germany when it was DDR. Now I'm going to visit
an ex-socialist country. I hope girls remained social :-)))
I'll let you know..
