For each day, I get a log file with approx 2 mb of data that looks like this:

166.72.89.188, 8/27/98, 0:04:33, 1328, 377, 3511, 200, 0, GET, /Default.htm,

<BIG snip>
153.37.75.208, 8/27/98, 0:05:45, 922, 323, 2689, 200, 0, GET, /tlcbg.htm,
153.37.75.208, 8/27/98, 0:05:45, 1328, 325, 3521, 200, 0, GET, /maintop.htm,
153.37.75.208, 8/27/98, 0:05:45, 1281, 324, 5042, 200, 0, GET, /splash.htm,

I worked out a makeship way of interpreting the files with BBEdit: I search
and replace the name of a page file, and it tells me how many occurrences
of the file name there were. I don't know of any way to check for peak
times of day.

I do have a sense of where in WebRing they're coming from, because I have
access to the stats for the WebRing banners. Currently about 30% come from
a Game ring, 30% from two Nude rings, 5% from Erotic, and 5% from Gay. That
last figure is interesting, because the male actors' photos get very few
hits in comparison to the females'--perhaps it's a lesbian ring, but I'm
not interested in checking it out for myself.

There would be no point in WebRing's people faking stats, because the whole
idea is that they would get a commission on sales of TLC. They don't get
paid by the click-through. In fact they don't get paid at all.

I appreciate the offer, but I imagine at this point the client would look
at it as throwing good money after bad. Fortunately the WebRing-connected
version of their site costs them little. Right now we're looking at
rearranging the link icons, and I'm simply trying to guess at a logical
approach to arranging them. Unfortunately, I doubt there's any arrangement
that will convert unqualified buyers into qualified buyers.
