Why are they not indexed?  Isn't the SSI executed when the spider
requests the page?

I have at least one site where I'm currently pulling keywords for
multiple directory indices from an SSI keyword file while I play with
them . . . so much easier to change regularly that way.  They seem to be
working for my tests on AltaVista and HotBot, but you seem to be
suggesting this approach might get them ignored elsewhere . . .
