I read a thorough review the other day and was very impressed by everything
except the current unavailablity of compatible peripherals. That something

Like any computer purchase, it all depends on what you want to do with it.
I would pay more than the imac's price to get easy expansion and
upgradability. If you don't need a super-computer for 3D work or for heavy
4 color print work, you might consider a PowerMac 8500 or 8600. Prices
have come down on these fully-expandable workhorses since introduction of
the G3 line. We have an 8500/180 and a 9500/180 MP, each with lots of RAM.
They are more than adequate for Web design, even considering that we work
our layers and channels-heavy Photoshop files at 144 dpi. They only slow us
down on 3D illustration and on 300 dpi 4C Photoshop files. We've also found
the video in/out on the 8500 to be quite handy.
