8's Finder is multi-threaded, which allows that particular application to perform as
many (more or less) internal tasks at once as the processor can handle without
choking. Such Finder-related tasks include file copies, trash emptying, disk erasing,
file list manipulating, etc.

Sort of. It's Apple's 'cooperative' multitasking, a form of multitasking (albeit a
less elegant one). For a good demonstration of it's weakness, click and hold on a menu
item the next time you're making your Mac work (such as downloading a file, etc.).
Watch the whole thing come to a grinding halt until you release your mouse button.

Get 8 and you'll have no reason to pine at all. Highlight the file and hit
command-delete. File zips right to the trash. This feature, along with the
control-drag alias feature [1], is available for System 7.5 users, incidentally, via
the Hidden Finder Features control panel.

[1] Control-click on a file and drag it to a different window. Presto! File stays in
it's original location and an alias is created at the destination (and without the
pesky "alias" suffix attached to the alias' file name).

The resulting atmosphere of this spiritual and political vacuum is tyranny in the form
