Rich: you were too antagonistic to Andreas. You can "wrong!" his
individual points, but don't start off on the wrong combative foot
by hinting at some self-superiority by saying Andreas needs to read
up on things (mailing lists, etc). I think he's done that.

Andreas: don't arbitrarily return fire. You *are* wrong in a few
places.

Both: chill!

I agree here. But only in a few places. Where Eric remains objective,
he still makes some good points about the MS strategy.

No, Rich said he was employed and still working on Linux (even if it
is not his main job).

> His primary job is not at developing Linux. Rich is wrong again.

Right. Rich never claimed that it was his main role. But he is
certainly not completely disassociated with the Linux effort.

'Distributing' is quite different than 'taking over'. They are
required by the licensing to contribute anything "value-add" back to
Linux as a whole. It is certainly commercialism, but so what?

> Rich, read the Microsoft memo. It shows that developer interest at Mozilla

Sure, but quantified within a two month period. Its too early. Wait a
while and then see. The short-term trend does not mean anything; it
could wane further, level off, or rise. The Netscape interest will not
dry up. People will contribute, despite what you may think.

And what about Bob Young's trust fund? Ray Noorda's bank account?
Your argument about lining the coffers of IBM/Netscape has already
been proven wrong with Linux. By your analogy, no one would be
contributing to Linux since it fills the pockets of RedHat, Caldera,
etc. Clearly, quite the opposite has happened. And as an added bonus,
this effect is *quantified* over a span of years, not months.
