Colors that look right on a pc will tend to look washed out on a mac.
Colors on a mac that look right will be too dark on a pc. This is due to
the difference in gamma between the two. Browser safe colors are meant to
prevent dithering on computers running in 256 colors -- it doesn't mean the
colors will look good or even be the same color from one computer to
another. A good resolution to assume for any user is 800x600. I use a pc at
work and a mac at home. I love my mac and wouldn't give it up for anything.
If you design for only one platform expect it to look like hell on other
platforms. You should see how horrible most web sites look when viewed from
a unix box. I would suggest spending some time learning all of the various
x-platform design issues, rather than spend your time complaining about how
horrible macs are. I would recommend picking up the books on graphic design
for the web that are written by Linda Weiman (or some similar last name.)
