I just cheated to see if they were the same machine. They are (I
telnetted to port 25 and they gave me the same response). This
is good. That means the problem lies on a single machine.

The only thing can think it might have been is that they rebooted
your machine in the last few hours and they had not "hard coded"
your secondary IP's in (Ie. put the numbers into the RC scripts).
So when they rebooted the computer, your IP numbers were valid
but there wasn't any machine attached to them. There was nothing
to respond to your request.
Does this make sense to you ?
