Hi
I bought a RedHat 5.2 CD last week for A$15 (approx = a Cheeseburger in
$US) (Australian's: it was the APC Linux pocketbook). I have been trying to
install it on an old 486.
It won't recognise the CDROM drive even though that's what it just booted
from. Well, actually it won't recognise the SCSI controller even though it
is on the list and I told it which one. (Future Domain TMC 950)
Ok... don't panic... I'll do an FTP install via my Bedroom Area Network I
thought. I made boot and supplemental disks and told it all about my IP
address etc etc. I don't have a spare Unix/Linux FTP server lying around
locally so I put the RH CD on my NT4 server and FTP'ed to that. It
eventually fails as all the file names are DOS 8.3 instead of really long
unix ones. I also tried a Mac but the same thing happened.
I don't have any spare room to copy the CD to a local HD on the 486 so I
can't do a HD install.
Any suggestions? (apart from trashing the NT4 server)
thanks
Bruce
