Our ISP just sent out a note:

"Our Domain Registration Department would like everyone to know that they
are experiencing delays with new domain registration submissions. The
delay is that NSI's (i.e. the U.S. InterNIC) automated registration process
is backlogged at this time. It is expected that a 48 hour delay may be
encountered before receiving a NIC tracking number. Domain names are still
being registered in the order in which they are received. Our Domain
Registration Department is experiencing a high volume of email from
customers inquiring about new domain registrations. We appreciate your
patience and respectfully ask that you allow 48 hours before contacting us
about the new domain registrations."
