Placement agencies take their cut but some of them do provide benefits like
health insurance, social security taxes, etc. that could be of value. One
of my friends is a talented programmer who still uses agencies from time to
time because it's easier than knocking on doors when referrals and personal
contacts aren't enough.
In the past, I've used Heuristics Search in Santa Clara, CA
