Here's a simple and cheap way to do it: Use NetMeeting and send the image as
a video conference.
Use a Connectix Color Quikcam camera (only $100 or so) (no video card
necessary. Just connect to the parallel port).
For sound, add a microphone. Connect this to the MIC port on the sound card.
$5 or so at Radio Shack for an ordinary tape recorder microphoneand $20 or
so for a low-end sound card (I'm giving you the lowest prices: you can
choose better/more expensive if you like.)
Tell viewers to fetch NetMeeting (2MB download, free from Microsoft,
www.microsoft.com/netmeeting ).
The client would go to a Microsoft conference server, such as
http://uls4.microsoft.com (there are seven or so of these). Click the button
for "Current Call" and then click the preview window for "Your View" and
then right click to adjust settings: quick but grainy or fine but choppy.
Set your client's self-description in NetMeeting to something such as
"Laura's 1998 University Graduation Ceremony: 1 pm, Eastern Standard Time")
and let viewers know the description.
Viewers would find the graduation in the list of logged-in users (they can
sort by description and easily find her), click, and they would be able to
see live video feed incl. sound. The keyboard operator could
You could get really fancy and make a webpage with a link to the Netmeeting
site. To create a link on your Web page, type Your Name. (Be sure to type the
correct name of the server.) For example, Laura would type: Watch <a href=
callto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>Laura's Graduation with
NetMeeting.
Okay, so it could probably be done better, but this is a very easy way to do
this and it's free.
