Anyone know of a newbie-friendly intro to the issue of browser
compatability and text-only access?
I need to help a colleague get up to speed on what a text-only browser
is, what the compatablity/degradability thing is all about, and when
something is/isn't accessible to (in particular) Lynx users and what the
causes are (both HTML-related, as well as some basics on network details
like "the sysadmin hasn't upgraded it in 5 years").
If it helps any, her task is to manage our on-line daily news summary.
We want to give out email versions, but *only* to people who can make a
real case for not being able to get it on the web (i.e, users in Vietnam
paying $2 a minute fo online access, people in Africa with only Pine and
no lynx installed on their inherited VAX machine). It will eventually
be advertiser sponsored, so we have to maintain tight control over the
email version and make sure it's limited, and only sent to people who
aren't recirculating it. Thus, she needs to be able to have some
background in this stuff to be able to assess these requests.
TIA,
B
