Well, of course, but the web-consultants list is a nice place to try
and avoid the PITA of having to close down my X session, reboot into
Windows, download, install, experiment..... and then reboot again,
only to find out I installed another version than my client is using.

Thank y'all for your helpful responses. That the problem could not be
solved on this list has alleviated some of my doubts as to the
competency of my client.
So I'll just stick to my conclusion that Eudora sucks, until the
opposite is proven :-(.
