I used them when I first began learning html which was about the same
time I began to learn about a windows environment. I soon found
textpad and perl and I use both to do all my code. I read rather than
depend on an editor to define my possiblities (which could be a valid
reason for using an editor).

Umm.. yes... I have had similar ... arguments with my boss. The boss
wants the writers to use an html editor. I say no, let's keep data
free. I much prefer to flow data from databases through some
templates to present to a user. But as much as I like this idea ...
it really requires a lot of forethought to implement. Or at least I
prefer that I do the html so that later I can write a script to
extract the data from the markup. AND so I can at least easily modify
it in the future. Working with code written in a wysiwyg editor by
someone who barely knows how to use it can easily produce a
maintenance nightmare.
If I were to suggest that the writer use an html editor I think I
would find one of those that I remember from long ago ... names
escape me now .. but I am talking of one that would only help them
use the basics -- nothing fancy. I would prepare the templates for
them to use: headers and footers with all the meta tags etc. in the
header. I would provide the style sheet.
I would like to hear how others are handling this. Does everyone
begin to learn to use an html editor (as opposed to html ... gee,
don't ask anyone to learn html and something like textpad where they
might encounter a regular expression). Or is their a really good
form to database to net product that is easy to install (or hard to
install and then easy for everything else), easy to use, and scalable
and the source code is available.
Someone mentioned Zope the other day but I admit that I just did not
grasp what it was doing when I took a look.

I just looked again. I just really don't see what they are talking
about. It seems like some sort of superhuman end all be all solve all
problems sort of thing. But it escapes me.

Might is not Right. But there is a lot of Might knocking
about in this world, and something has to be done about it.
